Montescudaio is an Italian town that has about 2,000 inhabitants, is located on the Tuscan hills in the province of Pisa.
The village of Montescudaio is located in the Val di Cecina, surrounded by green hills about ten kilometers from the Tuscan coast, and is part of the Pisan Maremma. It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
Originally home to a Benedictine monastery, in the Middle Ages Montescudaio became an important village thanks to its strategic position. Along the "path of memory" are the palaces of noble families.
Another itinerary runs along the Via dei Pellegrini, the area of the ancient Badia, the natural oasis equipped with the Scornabecchi and medieval sources.
Montescudaio is part of the National Wine City Association and boasts its own DOC which includes the municipalities of Val di Cecina, excluding Volterra. In 1968 the Wine Festival was born, in 1977 the wine obtained the denomination of controlled origin.
In addition to being the City of Wine, Montescudaio is also Cittą del Pane, the classic Tuscan tasteless cooked in a wood oven.
